One of the most dreaded experiences of many leaders is giving bad news:
Length:
1 Day
Tuition:
$250.00
Dates:
June 11
Location:
Houston, TX or a location near by.
Giving bad news for projects that have been dropped, promotions not granted, performance not acceptable, downsizings, and many other forms of news that will deeply disappoint the recipient.
Most often this sense of dread revolves around three main issues:
- The leaders are uncomfortable with the range and depth of emotion likely to be displayed, both by the recipient of the bad news and by themselves;
- They feel guilty for bearing news that will be perceived as hurtful or detrimental to another;
- And, underneath these two, there's most always the biggest one: Some major unfinished business regarding bad news in the leaders' own lives.
This last issue, the unfinished business, is the laboratory for those who wish to find a better starting place for serving in bad news situations.
The focus for this one-day seminar is just that -- a laboratory in which leaders and managers can finish some of that unfinished work left behind them in the closets of their worklife history.
The essential process for "taking the steam" out of bad news situations will be taught and worked as a group. Participants will be asked to bring with them real life situations so that they can leave with completed bad news situations under their belts. And, they will be able to utilize the learned process on any number of "bad news" situations on their own once back at work.
The seminar is
not
a substitute for sound HR policies and procedures, but rather a foundational course for creating a supportive attitude within which to hold conversations likely to be perceived as disappointing to the recipient of the bad news.
